Why did civilizations contemporary with the Prophet not record the incident of the splitting of the moon?

The splitting of the moon is confirmed by the Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the exegetes. People witnessed and observed it during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and reports about it have reached us through continuous transmission (tawatur). As for casting doubt on the incident on the pretext that not all inhabitants of the Earth knew about it, this is refuted because the miracle was specifically for the disbelievers of Quraish, and it occurred at night and for a short period, which explains why not all inhabitants of the Earth witnessed it. Furthermore, none of the historians contemporary to the event denied it.
