Is the funeral prayer an individual obligation upon those present at the cemetery?

The funeral prayer is a communal obligation (fard kifaya) by consensus, not an individual obligation (wajib ayni) on everyone present at the cemetery. However, witnessing it, praying over it, and burying it contain great good and reward. It has been reported: "Whoever attends a funeral until he prays over it will have a Qirat, and whoever attends until it is buried will have two Qirats." It was asked, "What are the two Qirats?" He replied, "Like two great mountains."
