Is it considered part of the religion for a sheikh to prevent people from speaking with another student merely because a quarrel occurred, and to expel the student who did not comply with his orders? And is it permissible to learn the Qur’an from a sheikh who behaves in this manner?

The aforementioned teacher committed the sin of backbiting against the student and the supervisors of the Qur'an memorization circle. He also erred in urging people to shun the student.

As for the questioner, there is no sin upon him for not obeying the teacher in shunning, because "there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator."

It is permissible to recite to the aforementioned teacher and learn from him, but one can search for another teacher if the teacher expelled the student for not obeying him in an impermissible matter.

The questioner is advised to strive in memorizing the Qur'an and mastering it under the guidance of a proficient shaykh.
