What is the Sharia ruling on two divorces that occurred under different circumstances, one ten years ago and the other a year ago, and are either of them considered a divorce, and am I required to pay expiation?

The husband's divorce takes effect if he utters it while being aware of what he is saying, even if he is in a difficult psychological state, unless he reaches a state of unconsciousness. The wife's illness does not affect the occurrence of divorce. The Imam's statement, "with the intention of resuming marital relations," perhaps refers to reconciliation (raj'ah) if the divorce was revocable. The second divorce takes effect, and the intention to deter the wife is not given any consideration. If the reconciliation occurs during the waiting period (iddah), it is valid, and you are not required to offer expiation.
