Did Revelation descend upon the Prophet Muhammad, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, through angels other than Gabriel, peace be upon him?
The Trustworthy Spirit is Jibril (Gabriel) - peace be upon him - who is the noblest of angels, the bearer of revelation. He descended upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, many times. Among these instances is what is narrated in Muslim, that Jibril said to the Prophet: "This is a gate from the heaven that was opened today and has never been opened before except today. Then an angel descended from it and said: 'This is an angel who descended to the earth and has never descended before except today.' He greeted and said: 'Rejoice in two lights that you have been given, which no prophet before you was given: the Fatihat al-Kitab (Opening of the Book) and the concluding verses of Surat al-Baqarah. You will not recite a single letter from them but you will be granted it.'"
