What is the ruling on learning the English language at the present time?

Learning the English language is a means, and if you need it as a means of inviting people to Allah, then learning it may be obligatory; otherwise, do not occupy your time with it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded Zayd ibn Thabit to learn the language of the Jews because of his need for it. So, if you need it, then learn it; otherwise, do not waste your time on it.
