Is the story of the Bedouin who came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with a mastigure in his hand, and the mastigure spoke and testified that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and the Bedouin embraced Islam—is this story authentic, weak, or fabricated? And is it found in Sahih Muslim?

The Hadith about the Dabb (monitor lizard) that spoke and bore witness to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding his prophethood, is a rejected (munkar) and fabricated (mawdu') hadith that is not authentic. Its defect lies in its chain of narration, specifically with Muhammad ibn Ali al-Sulami al-Basri. Scholars have ruled this hadith to be false. What is authentically established in Sahih Muslim is the Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, permission to eat the Dabb, along with his explanation that he did not eat it because it was not found in the land of his people, and thus he found it off-putting.
