Does the hadith "No fatigue, nor illness, nor anxiety, nor grief, nor harm, nor sorrow befalls a Muslim, not even a thorn that pricks him, but Allah expiates some of his sins because of it" include the one who abandons prayer?

Leaving a prayer until its time has expired, without a legitimate Shari excuse, is a grave sin and a major transgression. Some scholars have gone as far as to consider the one who abandons it to be a disbeliever. However, the fatwa adopted by us is that it does not constitute disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. On both views, the sin of the one who abandons prayer does not fall under the expiation mentioned in the hadith, because it is specific to the expiation of minor sins, as is the view of the majority.
