Is it permissible to speak about and warn against sheikhs when there is a fault in them?
It is obligatory to respect the Sheikhs if they are scholars, due to the Prophet's saying, peace and blessings be upon him: "He is not of my Ummah who does not respect our elders, have mercy on our young ones, and acknowledge the rights of our scholars." Likewise, the preachers and students of knowledge, due to their high status. Allah Almighty said regarding the preachers: "And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said regarding students of knowledge: "Whoever takes a path upon which to obtain knowledge, Allah makes easy for him a path to Paradise." And if they err, they are reminded with respect, and if they fall into innovation or issue fatwas without knowledge, then there are other fatwas concerning how to deal with them.
