Is it permissible to adopt the suggestion of painting the available chicken red to fulfill a vow if a red chicken is unavailable?

A vow is binding if it involves an act of obedience or an act of devotion. A mere color is not considered an act of devotion or obedience. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the man who vowed to stand and not sit, not seek shade, not speak, and to fast, to only complete his fast because it was an act of obedience, and to abandon what was not an act of obedience. As stated in the hadith: "Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him," and "There is no vow except in what is sought for the sake of Allah," which indicates that a vow is only valid for an act of obedience. Changing the color of chickens with paint is an act of frivolity and an unnecessary burden, which is forbidden by Islamic law.
