What is the meaning of the the name "Irfan" and is it a good name for a child to be given, and what is the meaning of the name "Ayman"?
A father should choose a beautiful name for his son, for the name is the title of the named.
"Irfan" (with a kasra on the ayn): means knowledge. "Uruffan" and "Iriffan": a type of locust. "Urfan": dual of urf (mane or crest).
"Iriffan" and "Urfan" have been used as names for men, and "Irfan" (with a kasra on the ayn) has been used as a name for a woman.
As for "Arafan" (with a fatha on the ayn), it is unknown in the Arabic language and should not be used as a name, unless it has a good meaning in another language.
"Ayman" is a beautiful name derived from "yumn" (blessing, good fortune). It is the opposite of "aysar" (left). The Companion Ayman ibn Umm Ayman was named thus, so there is no harm in using it as a name, hoping for blessings.
