Does feeling remorse after watching forbidden things and repeatedly repenting indicate a lack of sincere love for Allah, or hypocrisy and ostentation?
Love for Allah and His Messenger has degrees, and a servant's falling into sins indicates a deficiency in it, not its absence. Repeating a sin after repentance does not invalidate the sincerity of repentance according to the majority, for the validity of repentance depends on abandoning the sin, regretting it, and having a firm resolve not to repeat it. Sincere repentance is a divine success, and its gratitude is shown by not repeating the disobedience. The question "Am I evil or good?" cannot be answered absolutely, for faith and hypocrisy may coexist in the heart, and one may overpower the other. One must continue to strive against the self, frequently supplicate to Allah, guard against isolation, and remember Allah's constant watchfulness.
