Is it permissible to give infants canned food containing non-halal meat when no alternative is available?

It is forbidden to feed children what is unlawful. This is indicated by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of Hasan (definition) ibn Ali from eating from charity, when he said: "Cough, cough, throw it away! Do you not know that we do not eat charity?" It is obligatory for a Muslim to raise his children with a righteous upbringing in a righteous environment, and not to settle them in lands of disbelief.
