What is the ruling on visiting kin during Eids and occasions and offering gifts to sisters?

Maintaining kinship ties (silat al-rahim) is obligatory between any two individuals who are محرم (unmarriageable relatives), and it is recommended with other relatives. The extent of this maintenance is determined by common custom. There is no evidence for any special virtue of maintaining kinship ties specifically on Eid, although some scholars have recommended it on this occasion. Exchanging and accepting gifts is a Sunnah, and it is better to give gifts to relatives, as it combines the act of gifting with the maintenance of kinship ties.
