Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of photographic and video images. The preponderant opinion is that they are permissible when there is a need and they are free from what is unlawful. Accordingly, it is permissible to send pictures of sons and daughters to the mother and siblings. However, it is not permissible to send a picture of one's wife to one's siblings, because she is a non-mahram to them, and it is not permissible for them to look at her without a recognized need.
