The basic principle is that the maintenance of children is obligatory upon the father. If he has no money or is unable to work, then the maintenance becomes obligatory upon his wealthy son. Therefore, if the father is poor and ill, it is obligatory upon the wealthy son to spend on his father and sisters. This is the preponderant opinion among scholars. As for the father writing over his land to his son without including his daughters, this is not permissible if it is a donation, unless it is through a sale.
