Is the widow of a martyr obligated to observe the waiting period ('iddah), and is it permissible for her to appear on television screens?

The woman whose husband dies as a martyr in the cause of Allah observes the same 'iddah (waiting period) as other women. If she is pregnant, her 'iddah is until she gives birth. If she is not pregnant, her 'iddah is four months and ten days. If she does not menstruate due to young or old age, her 'iddah is three months. As for her appearance on television, it is not permissible, whether during or after the 'iddah; this is because it constitutes immodest display (tabarruj) and a source of temptation (fitnah) for men. Furthermore, a woman in 'iddah should not leave her house except for a necessary need, and it would be difficult for her to avoid adornment when appearing [on television].
