Has the prohibition of fighting during the sacred months been abrogated, and have all the rulings of the sacred months been abrogated, or only fighting?

The Sacred Months are Rajab, Dhu al-Qa'dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram. They are so named due to their increased sanctity and the prohibition of fighting therein. It is also possible that the prohibition of injustice therein is specific to them due to their increased sacredness. Scholars differ on the ruling concerning fighting during these months. The majority of scholars believe that the prohibition of initiating combat in them has been abrogated, while others hold that it has not been abrogated and its ruling remains. Defensive fighting, however, is permissible by unanimous consensus. The preponderant view is that fighting is not permissible therein except in defense or as an extension of a previous battle, while maintaining their reverence and the gravity of sins committed therein.
