Is a wife permitted to refuse her husband's request to go weekly to his mother's house for lunch, after repeated harassment and fabricating errors against her? And is the husband Islamically entitled to compel her to do so despite her refusal, given her agreement to other visits?

We hold the view that it is permissible for the wife to refuse her husband's request to visit his family every Friday, and the husband does not have the right to compel her to do so, especially if relations between the wife and her in-laws have soured. We advise mutual understanding between the spouses and cooperation in maintaining kinship ties and showing kindness to the family of the other party, while overlooking mistakes. The wife should be keen on showing kindness to her in-laws and being patient with them. Indeed, whoever seeks Allah's help and employs wisdom, gentleness, and tact, Allah will guide him to unite hearts and avoid animosity.
