The presence of impurity on the body does not affect the validity of ghusl (ritual bath) if it does not prevent water from reaching the skin. However, it is not permissible to pray before removing the impurity. If a person enters the water with an impurity that changes the color, smell, or taste of the water, or if the water is less than two qullas (a specific measure) and becomes impure, then ghusl performed with it is invalid, and the body becomes impure. Therefore, the impurity must be removed before entering the water. It is worth noting that the preponderant opinion is that semen is not impure.
