How can one know his standing and the value of his love in the sight of Allah, and whether Allah loves him or not, while he is constantly engaged in remembrance, reciting the Quran, and performing acts of obedience?
The love of God is unseen, but it is attained by embodying the characteristics and performing the deeds that God mentioned in His Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger, such as ihsan (excellence), repentance, purification, piety, patience, reliance on God, justice, and fighting in the cause of God. A servant draws closer to God by performing the obligatory acts and then the supererogatory ones to attain His love. Conversely, God dislikes certain characteristics such as treachery, arrogance, conceit, boasting, corruption, extravagance, aggression, and disbelief. Whoever desires God's love should ponder the Quran to know what God loves and what displeases Him, and should have good expectations of Him.
