Is it legislated to supplicate for the deceased after the fourth Takbir?

Scholars have differed on the issue of supplication after the fourth takbir in the funeral prayer. The Hanafis and Hanbalis are of the view that there should be no supplication, while the Shafi'is and Malikis consider it commendable. Many scholars have favored the commendability of supplication after the fourth takbir, based on what Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrated, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so. Some scholars have also held that supplication after the fourth takbir is preferable to silence, because prayer is an act of worship in which there is no silence except for a specific reason.
