What is the ruling on supplicating for the deceased after the funeral prayer and before burial, as well as after the completion of the burial process?

Praying for the deceased after burial, seeking forgiveness for them, and asking for their steadfastness is permissible, as indicated by the Prophet's (PBUH) hadith: "Ask Allah to forgive your brother and to make him steadfast, for he is now being questioned." Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that it was the guidance of the Prophet (PBUH) to stand by the grave and pray for the deceased. Sheikh al-Islam was of the opinion that the prohibition against praying over hypocrites and standing by their graves implies the permissibility of praying over the deceased before burial and standing by their grave after burial. As for praying for forgiveness for the deceased and for patience for their family before burial, it is a Sunnah according to some scholars, but its collective performance has not been established from the Salaf.
