Every blood a woman sees during a time when it can be menstruation is considered menstruation, provided it lasts for at least a day and a night and does not exceed fifteen days. When a woman sees blood, even if it is before her usual period, she is considered menstruating and must refrain from fasting and prayer. If the blood stops, she performs ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) and resumes the rulings of pure women. If the blood returns, she is considered menstruating again. Purity that occurs intermittently during the menstrual period is valid purity, and there is no need to make up for acts of worship performed during it.
