Do you consider yourselves indebted to the taxi driver who refused to take the fare, and if so, how can you repay this right?

If our understanding is correct that you did not pay the driver the full fare, or you paid only a part of it and he left content, thinking you did not have the money, then you are obliged to pay him the remaining fare if possible. This is unless he willingly forgives you after knowing you have the money. If you are unable to reach him, then give that amount in charity on his behalf. The jurists have stated that it is forbidden to take something if the giver is giving it based on a characteristic he presumes in the taker (like poverty) which is not actually present, and in this case, the taker does not truly own what he has taken.
