It is the wife's right that her husband should not be absent from her for more than six months without a valid excuse. If the wife requests a divorce because the husband is harming her, he must remove the harm from her and live with her kindly, or separate from her and give her her rights. However, if her request for divorce is without justification, he is not obligated to grant it. If reconciliation is not possible and the wife dislikes her husband, she has the right to seek khul' from him in exchange for relinquishing some or all of her rights.
