Should a husband divorce his disobedient wife who asks for divorce for trivial reasons, or should he be patient with her because of the children, and is there reward for being patient with her?
The husband's right over his wife is immense, and she must obey him in what is good and permissible. It is not permissible for her to seek divorce without a legitimate Shar'i reason. We advise the husband to counsel his wife and resort to legitimate means of reconciliation, such as avoiding her in bed and light, non-injurious striking. If she does not respond, and it is highly probable that divorce might bring her back to the right path, then there is no harm in that. Patience, seeking Allah's pleasure, carries a great reward and has a good outcome, for "Indeed, whoever fears Allah and is patient, then verily, Allah wastes not the reward of the good-doers."
