Is it permissible to use an "iPod" device found during the announcement period (a full year) until its owner comes forward?

Whoever finds a valuable lost item (luqatah) must announce it for a year in the place where it was found and in public places. If its owner comes, it should be handed over to him. Otherwise, it becomes his after the year, but he is obliged to give it to its owner whenever the owner comes to claim it thereafter. The finder is not permitted to benefit from the lost item before the year has passed, as it is a trust (amanah) with him.
