What should a daughter do after discovering her mother's illicit relationship online and over the phone, and is it permissible for her to inform her maternal uncles, or should the matter end in divorce?
The mother must be prevented from the forbidden relationship by every possible means. This includes advising her, threatening to expose her, threatening the young man involved with scandal, and seeking help from maternal uncles. Informing the father should be the last resort to avoid the family's collapse. The mother's right to dutifulness does not cease even if she commits a heinous evil act. Part of dutifulness towards her is preventing her from what is forbidden, even by cutting off internet or phone access. It is incumbent upon her children and her 'asabah (agnatic kin) to prevent her from forbidden acts, even if it requires detaining or restraining her. However, they are not permitted to carry out the prescribed punishment on her, such as killing or other forms of punishment.
