Does the noble verse: ﴿And He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah disbelieved in and ridiculed, then do not sit with them﴾ and the hadith "The one who is silent about evil is like the one who commits it" apply only to ridiculing the verses of Allah, or to every evil and forbidden act, such that one must leave the place upon hearing songs, or witnessing lies and backbiting, or immodest dress? And does sin befall one who sits in a place where there is an evil without approving of it?

One who witnesses an evil must denounce it. If the evil persists, then one must leave the gathering, for Allah Almighty says: "And He has already sent down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allah being denied and ridiculed, do not sit with them until they engage in another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them" (An-Nisa: 140). This applies not only to disbelief or mockery of Allah's verses, but to every sin. If a sinner does not abandon the evil after being advised, then he is indeed mocking, and it is therefore permissible to leave him and not sit with him.
