Is distributing sweets to those who have been blessed with a newborn considered an imitation of the disbelievers?

There is no harm in showing joy and happiness at the arrival of a newborn and distributing sweets and the like, as this is not exclusive to disbelievers. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about a celebration held when a child begins to walk, during which sweets are thrown on his head. He replied that there is no objection to expressing joy in occasions that bring happiness, provided it does not involve anything forbidden or a [false] belief. These are natural matters.
