Does a Muslim's joy in his charitable work, or his informing close relatives about it, constitute showing off (riyaa') that invalidates its reward?

The feeling of joy and happiness when doing good deeds does not contradict sincerity, as long as it is not intended for showing off (riya') or self-admiration (ujb). Rather, it is an indication of the strength and perfection of faith, fulfilling the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whoever is pleased by his good deed and displeased by his evil deed, that is a believer." Informing parents or one's wife about what one has done is not considered showing off, as long as the original intention is to please Allah. However, it is encouraged to keep deeds secret unless a legitimate benefit necessitates their disclosure, as a precaution against the deviation of intention and seeking people's praise.
