Is it permissible to give the equivalent value of feeding a poor person as expiation on behalf of the sick mother-in-law, for whom there is no hope of recovery, from the money saved for her shroud and burial?

A sick person suffering from an illness from which recovery is not hoped for must feed a poor person for each day he misses fasting, as an expiation for his fasting, based on the Almighty's saying: "And upon those who are able to fast, but with difficulty, is a ransom: the feeding of a poor person."

The mother of the wife must pay the expiation from her own money if she has the means. If not, then she has an excuse. If she has saved money, the expiation must be paid from it. The obligation does not cease for her by saving money for her burial shroud after her death, because her burial preparations are obligatory upon her heirs. It is not permissible to pay the expiation on her behalf without her explicit permission.
