The answer

If a woman's illness is one from which recovery is hoped, she must make up the days she missed after her recovery. However, if her illness is one from which recovery is not hoped, she must feed a poor person for each day she missed. This expiation (kaffarah) is obligatory from her own wealth, and her husband is not required to pay it on her behalf. If she does not have the means, the fidyah (redemption) remains a debt upon her until she finds what to pay it with, and there is no sin upon her for the delay due to her inability. Some scholars have held the view that the fidyah is waived in this situation due to her inability to pay it.
