Is it permissible to work in the tax sector in Egypt, and is it permissible to use wasta (connections/favoritism) to get a job there?
If taxes are imposed due to the state's need and insufficient funds, they are permissible, provided that justice is observed in their application by distinguishing between the poor and the rich, imposing them on those who are able. In such a case, working in this field and seeking intercession for employment therein is permissible, as long as the intercession does not infringe upon the rights of others. However, if the taxes are impermissible, then working in the entities overseeing them is not allowed, as it falls under cooperation in sin and aggression, which is forbidden in His (Allah's) saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression."
