Will Allah punish a servant for a sin he committed – such as gossip – even if he repents with sincere repentance, and will the punishment be of the same nature as the sin committed?

Allah accepts sincere repentance, no matter how great the sins, if its conditions are met. The repentant person must distance himself from the causes of vice and increase in good deeds, for good deeds erase bad deeds. The saying "Allah gives respite but does not neglect" is true concerning the one who insists on committing sins. As for the one who repents with sincere repentance, it is hoped that Allah will pardon him and replace his bad deeds with good ones, and he may be saved from punishment in this world and the hereafter. Indeed, the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin.
