The upkeep of a poor daughter who has no money or earnings is obligatory upon her father. If he is absent, then it falls upon her wealthy, inheriting relatives. If she has no heir other than her mother, then her upkeep becomes obligatory upon the wealthy mother. If the mother refuses to spend appropriately, it is permissible for the daughter to take from her mother's money what suffices her, in moderation. If the daughter takes more than her need, or in a situation where the mother is not obligated to provide upkeep, then she must repent and return the excess or seek her mother's forgiveness. As for taking the mother's money, it does not prevent the answering of supplications, except for one who insists on consuming unlawful gains.
