What is the ruling on a husband refusing to give his wife personal spending money except in exchange for a brief marital relationship, and is the husband sinful for doing so?

It is obligatory for the husband to provide for his wife adequately in terms of food, clothing, and housing. The financial status of both spouses, whether affluent or in hardship, is taken into consideration. It is not obligatory for the husband to give his wife a personal allowance if he has fulfilled his other obligations. If he does so, it falls under the good companionship encouraged by Islamic law, as Allah Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness." This includes kind speech, good deeds, refraining from harm, and showing benevolence. The husband does not incur sin if he does not give his wife a monthly allowance after providing her with the obligatory maintenance.
