Is it necessary to close doors and windows at sunset throughout the night, or only for a specific time, to repel jinn and devils? And if it is for a specific time, how long does it last?

It is sunnah, when night falls, to prevent children and animals from going out, because jinn (devils) spread at that time. It is also sunnah to close doors and windows, mentioning Allah's name over them when darkness sets in, especially when sleeping; this is to protect the house and its occupants from jinn and vermin. There is no harm in opening them out of necessity.
