What is the ruling on walking with sandals in a graveyard?

The Sunnah for one who enters a graveyard is to remove their sandals unless there is a need, such as the presence of thorns or intense heat that would harm the foot. This is based on what Bashir ibn al-Khasasiyyah narrated, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded a man walking in the graves with his sandals to remove them. This has been affirmed by jurists such as Ibn Qudamah, Ahmad, and Ibn 'Uthaymin, and scholars of the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta'.
