Is it permissible to wear a wig for adornment and to change hairstyles and colors and to save time and effort, with the knowledge of the husband and those around and without intent of deception, misguidance, or concealing defects?

The preponderant opinion is that it is permissible to wear a wig if it is made of pure hair other than human hair, and if the woman does not display her adornment excessively while wearing it. This applies whether it is worn out of necessity or for adornment for the husband.

The Maliki school of thought holds it permissible because it is placed on the head and is not among the prohibited hair extensions. As for the Hanafi school, they consider it permissible absolutely. The Shafi'i school permits it for a married woman with her husband's permission, and the Hanbali school permits it out of necessity.

As for the hair extension explicitly prohibited by Islamic law, it is that which involves adding hair to the hair of the head in a continuous manner.
