Is it permissible for a wife to abandon her husband, his bed, and his home, to refuse him, and to demand a divorce without a legitimate Shar'i justification other than her jealousy of his marriage to another woman, especially when there are three children?

It is not permissible for the wife to abandon her husband, or to deny herself to him without a valid excuse, or to leave his house without his permission, merely because he married another woman. If she did not stipulate in the marriage contract that he should not marry another, then she has no right to annul the marriage or seek divorce. Divorce is detestable, and a woman is forbidden from asking for divorce without a valid reason. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without a valid reason, the scent of Paradise will be forbidden to her." However, if she dislikes her husband and fears that she will not be able to fulfill his rights, then she may seek a khul' (divorce at the wife's instance). The advice for a woman whose husband has married another is to be patient, to consider the consequences of separation for herself and her children, and to prioritize benefit over jealousy.
