What should be done with an illiterate grandfather who recites the Qur’an and Hadith in colloquial Arabic, rejects advice, believes he is right, commits forbidden acts, and out of ignorance, mentions events of the Day of Judgment with words that are not befitting of God?

Begin by advising your grandfather gently and kindly, approaching him from the perspective of his love for good. If you find virtuous and elderly people who can guide him, that is even better, because a grandfather is a father. Whoever wishes to read Hadith (definition) and the Quran must learn them [properly] and not read them in colloquial Arabic. However, explaining their meanings in colloquial Arabic is permissible. The statement that the beard is a Sunnah (definition) that may be abandoned is not sound; rather, the preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory to keep it full and not shave it, unless there is a certain or predominant harm.
