What is the interpretation of the verse: {And He it is who has made you successors to the earth and raised some of you above others in ranks, that He may test you by means of what He has given you}? (Al-An'am: 165)

The noble verse is the conclusion of Surah Al-An'am, and it means that Allah has made you inhabit the earth generation after generation, and He has varied you in provisions, morals, virtues, vices, appearances, shapes, and colors, for a profound wisdom. As in His saying, Exalted be He: "We have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may take one another in subjection." And His saying: "Look how We have preferred some of them over others. But the Hereafter is greater in degrees [of rank] and greater in preference." And His saying, Exalted be He: "that He might test you in what He has given you," meaning to test you in what He has bestowed upon you and to try you with it, to test the rich in their wealth and gratitude, and the poor in their poverty and patience. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, this world is sweet and green, and Allah has made you His vicegerents in it, and He watches how you act. So, beware of the world and beware of women, for the first tribulation of the Children of Israel was concerning women."
