Why is prayer greater than Hajj?

The superiority of prayer over other deeds is evident from the texts of the Shari'ah. It is the best way for a servant to draw near to his Lord, and it is superior to Hajj and other acts of worship. Prayer is absolutely the best deed after the two testimonies of faith, and it is also said to be so after knowledge and Jihad. Prayer is considered the most emphasized of obligatory acts, and its supererogatory form is the most emphasized of supererogatory acts. It combines various forms of worship such as sincerity, recitation, bowing, and prostration. It is mentioned in the Hadith: "Prayer is the best subject," and its virtue is indicated by verses such as: "And seek help through patience and prayer" (2:45), and "And enjoin prayer upon your family and be steadfast in it" (20:132). Prayer is distinguished by its ability to gather one's determination, ensure presence of heart, and قطع off from everything else. For this reason, it was heavy on the soul.
