If a person who abandons prayer is killed while defending himself, his family, or his property, he is considered a martyr by the majority of scholars who do not deem him an infidel for abandoning prayer. He is washed and prayed over, and he receives the reward of a martyr. Some jurists hold that whoever is killed unjustly is a martyr and is neither washed nor prayed over. The deceased benefits from the righteousness and uprightness of his children, provided that he was not the cause of their corruption or negligent in their upbringing.
