What is the ruling on manufacturing robots, and does it fall under the forbidden imagery [taswir] in Islamic law?

A robot is a movable machine made to perform specific services. It has been shaped in the image of a human to demonstrate industrial progress, but it cannot replace humans. If this machine is designed in the form of a human or an animal, it takes the ruling of forbidden depiction and embodiment of living beings. However, if its design is incomplete so that it does not resemble a human or an animal, then there is no harm in it. It is permissible to manufacture this machine provided that it is not shaped in the image of living beings to avoid sin.
