Is it incumbent upon a girl to reduce her pursuit of knowledge and reading to please her parents, knowing that she benefits greatly from it, and it helps her perform acts of worship correctly, and her parents wish for her to lessen her reading, claiming, "Pity yourself a little; you're always with books"?

There is no doubt that utilizing free time by reading books of Islamic knowledge is a great act of worship that should be continued, while maintaining sincerity of intention for Allah, and using wisdom and astuteness with parents by choosing appropriate times for reading. Obedience to parents is not required in abandoning reading and seeking understanding in the religion, as long as you are fulfilling your duties towards them.
