Is it permissible to postpone the divorce for six months to pay the deferred dower, or should the divorce take place now with the deferred dower being paid later, knowing that there is a long distance between the spouses?

A wife is not permitted to seek divorce without a legitimate Shari reason. If she requests it without a valid right, the husband may refuse to divorce her until she relinquishes some or all of her rights. The deferred dowry (mu’akhar as-sadaq) or the agreed-upon sum at the time of divorce or khul is not required to be paid immediately; rather, it becomes a debt upon the husband that must be paid when he is able. There is no necessary correlation between the pronouncement of divorce and the immediate payment of the deferred dowry.
