The deferred dower (mu'akhkhar as-sadaq) must be paid to the divorced woman immediately if she demands it and the man is able to pay. It is not permissible to delay it under the pretext of paying the dower of a new wife or for other non-essential reasons. However, if the man fears falling into sin by delaying marriage and does not possess enough to repay the debt and pay the dower for marriage, he is permitted to prioritize the expenses of marriage, as marriage in this case becomes one of the essential needs.
